About

SC Innovation Station provides high-quality, research-based, vetted resources and professional learning opportunities to support South Carolina educators seeking innovative strategies for improving the quality of education for all students. These supports and services are intended to affect the movement of district and school practices from those of compliance to quality, and ultimately to engagement through the development of or the improvement of systems and processes. These resources are made available to assist districts and schools with making necessary adjustments that positively impact leadership, teaching and learning, school culture, parent and community engagement, and most importantly, positive outcomes for students. Supports are focused on:

  • identifying and implementing evidence-based interventions grounded in research aligned with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) tiers of evidence;
  • utilizing relevant data to guide the planning of expenditures of federal funds, while ensuring that investments yield tangible payoffs in terms of student outcomes;
  • teaching children of poverty, as well as the successful implementation of evidence-based strategies to mitigate the effects of poverty on learning;
  • school improvement planning including, but not limited to, comprehensive needs assessment development, prioritization of needs, goal composition and timelines, data collection and data-informed decision making, and communication with stakeholders and;
  • identifying characteristics and standards specific to planning and implementing effective professional learning opportunities for district and school administrators, professional support staff, and teachers.

Mission

The Mission of the Innovation and Support (I&S) team, within the Office of Federal and State Accountability at the South Carolina Department of Education, is to assist districts and schools with moving practices from compliance, to quality and ultimately engagement by providing innovative services and supports, professional learning opportunities related to evidence-based interventions, and technical assistance for selecting and implementing evidence-based interventions. One way of doing this is through the SC Innovation Station online resource portal.
